Schachten are treeless forest meadows in the bavarian forest/germany.
In the old times these open areas with a size of a few hectares were used by the shepherds as sleeping spaces and for pauses.
Individual trees were preserved in the meadows to offer shady resting places for the animals. These isolated trees were able to develop freely and are often very old and drawn by wind and weather...
